Why use an electric toothbrush?

We have always been told to use a toothbrush two to three times a day to maintain a good dental health. Why for most people it is not essential item, I find that using a best electric toothbrush is a great idea. Indeed, an electric toothbrush makes teeth cleaning more easy and ensure to have the best brushing possible, as long as your respect the 2 minutes rule. Anyway, the best electric toothbrushes include a 2 minutes timer, so you can’t go under or over brushing time. A best electric toothbrush is especially good for kids, because it makes toothbrushing more fun, but also ensure a certain quality of cleaning.

Why is cleaning much better? Because it helps remove more easily plaque that is usually difficult to remove with a simple manual tooth brushing. Hence, electric toothbrushes are great alternatives to the manual toothbrush, but it is important to make some research and buy a good electric toothbrush.

Indeed, because of their popularity, thousands of models of electric toothbrushes have been released on our markets. So what features should you look? First, you have to make sure that the head of your best electric toothbrush fits your mouth. You will need to read reviews to determine what people have to say about the brush heads. This may determine what electric toothbrush you will go for.

Then, you have the choice between vibrating or rotary, oscillating, and sonic electric toothbrushes. The best electric toothbrushes use the oscillating or the sonic technology as the rotary mechanism of action is similar to that of manual brushing (scrubbing motion of bristles against the teeth). A Sonic electric toothbrush (such as the Sonicare) is recognizable by the high rate of speed at which the brush head vibrates (>30 000 per minute). A oscillating or pulsating (such as Braun Oral-B Triumph) best electric toothbrush creates a back and forth oscillating and pulsating movement at which the brush head oscillate at about 8000 brush strokes per minute and pulsates at 40 000 pulsations per minute.

When choosing your best electric toothbrush, you will have to determine a budget. Some electric toothbrushes are much more costly, but will give you a superior cleaning that will have that after-the-dentist feeling. It is recommended to invest at least between 60-150$ for a quality electric toothbrush. Usually rotary electric toothbrushes are cheaper, but as mentioned earlier, doesn’t do better than manual brushing.

Happy brushing!

>> Dental health <<

1. What does this mean?

Dental health includes all aspects of health and how our mouth works, especially regarding our teeth and gum. Other than to allow us to eat, talk, laugh (think about white smiles), our teeth and gum also have to find infections and bacteria, which can cause cavities, gum inflammation, teeth decay and bad breath.

Cavities is a hole that appear in the teeth and is the most common dental health problem. Cavity prevention consists in a good oral hygiene combined with the use of fluoride and the consumption of food that will not cause cavities.

Just like the nose of the Sphinx, teeth can also erode. This is normal and is part of tooth aging. The tooth enamel can deteriorate following exposition to acidic substances other than the the one made by dental plaque.

Wearing out and abrasion are other form of tooth erosion. The wearing out of the teeth is caused by the natural contact of teeth between each other. Erosion is caused by external mechanical factors, such as bad brushing technique.

Paradontosis is the inflammation of the gum and other deeper structures. The most common type of paradontosis is gingivitis, which is the result of infection and inflammation of the gum and other dental tissues. Extreme cases of paradontosis can lead to tooth loss.

2. Why is dental health so important for the well-being and the overall health?

Mouth and dental health are closely connected to general health and to the well-being. The ability to chew and swallow is essential to get all the nutrients we need to stay healthy. Moreover, lacking dental health can also impact on the speech and, which can possibly affect self-confidence. Dental diseases and problems also lead to financial and social issues, because they are costly to fix. Furthermore, dental pain due to poor dental health is also the cause of many miss school or work days.

3. The how and the why of cavities

Cavities are the result of acid generated erosion caused by the bacteria found in dental plaque. Those bacteria creates a sticky coat, the dental plaque. Those bacteria eat sugars and secrete acidic products. Those acidic products dissolve minerals such as calcium and phosphorus found in teeth. This is demineralization of teeth.

Cavities can be fixed. Saliva wash off the food in the mouth and neutralize the acidic products released by the bacteria. This process is essential for teeth remineralization. Saliva also brings the fluoride found in the toothpaste or other dental cleaning products to the teeth. Fluoride is used to help control cavities by helping tooth remineralization by inhibiting the production of acids by the bacteria, therefore slowing teeth corrosion.

Fortunately, the formation of cavity doesn’t occur easily. It usually happens once there is an unbalance between demineralization and remineralization.

4. What can increase the formation of cavities

There are several factors that can influence the development of cavities. The susceptibility to cavity varies between people and between each tooth in the mouth. The shape of the jaw and of the mouth, the structure of the teeth, saliva quantity like quality are all factors that will influence predisposition of tooth decay. For example, some teeth may have more hollows or cracks, that allow bacteria and acids to get in more easily. Sometimes, the structure of the jaw or the dentition structure make toothbrushing, flossing or cleaning of some area more difficult.

How much saliva is produced and its quality give a good idea of how teeth remineralization. For instance, cavities usually don’t form at the front of the mouth, where teeth are more exposed to saliva flux.

The type and number of bacteria in the mouth is also an important factor to tooth cavity. All bacteria can ferment sugars into acidic products, but some species of Streptococcus and Lactobacilli produce more. Therefore, a higher presence of those strains in the dental plaque increase the risk of erosion. Some people have higher concentrations of those bacteria on their teeth, generally due to poor dental hygiene.

This is why it is important that you brush your teeth at least twice a day, in the morning and before bedtime, with your best electric toothbrush, floss your teeth every day and reduce you consumption on high in sugar food, such as candies.

Say cheese! Whether you are having your picture taken or are smiling at someone, one of the first thing people see are you teeth. Because when you are expressing yourself and when you are talking, your teeth show first, it is important to take care of your teeth and gum. A beautiful and healthy smile will attract more people, will get you an overall more positive attitude of people around you.

Your teeth are important, in many other ways. Healthy teeth help make a healthy person. They allow you to eat, to speak clearly, and of course, to you look your best.

After your eat, sugar covers your teeth. And bacteria love that sugar, which allow them to proliferate. The bacteria break that sugar down into acids, which cause your tooth enamel to weaken, causing holes in your teeth, or in other words, cavities.

Plaque is a sticky, colorless film of bacteria and sugars that constantly forms on our teeth. They are the direct cause of gingivitis, a gum disease that can make your gum go red and swell.

The lack of teeth care will lead to cavities and unhealthy gum, which can be make your mouth very sore, making it difficult to eat. With unhealthy teeth and gum, chances are that you won’t feel like smiling so much.

The invention of toothpate… and before

With years and years of research, we now know how to take care of our teeth. Before the invention of toothpaste and toothbrushes, when people didn’t know as much about teeth care, as people got older, their teeth would rot away. They would have to endure pain. If the toothache was unbearable, they could only pull out the rotting teeth out. But today, with our technology and science, we have the tools to take care of our teeth. However, although we have the right tools, you also need to take the time to use them. And while you’re swishing that minty, vanilla-y or bubble-gummy fresh toothpaste around your mouth, think about how lucky you are. Over 100 years ago, people were using

* ground-up chalk or charcoal
* lemon juice
* ashes
* tobacco and honey mixed together

to clean their teeth…

The first minty fresh tooth cleaning product was invented only about 100 years ago. A few years later, the toothpaste tube was invented, allowing people to squeeze the paste right onto the toothbrush! Popularity of tooth brushing rose during World War II as the U.S. Army gave toothbrushes (we bet they weren’t best electric toothbrushes!) and toothpaste to their soldiers, who learned to brush twice a day.

Today, there are plenty of flavors and types of toothpaste to choose from. There are mint/vanilla/cinnamon flavored toothpaste, there are toothpaste for kids, for people with sensitive teeth, there are toothpaste with whitening added. Just watch TV commercials or ads in magazines to see the number of varieties in tooth care products. Most toothpaste brands contains fluoride, a product also used at your dentist’s office, which helps increase the strength of your teeth, protecting them from cavities. But tooth care products doesn’t stop there. You probably own a manual toothbrush, a best electric toothbrush, floss that were designed to help you take care of your mouth and teeth.

Keep Your Teeth Healthy

Here are some tips to keep your teeth healthy.

* Brush a minimum of twice a day — after breakfast and before bedtime. If possible, brush after lunch or after sweet snacks. Brushing often will help break down plaque, reducing the chance of painful gingivitis.
* Brush your teeth properly. Spend some time to brush the teeth at the very back of your mouth. Wisdom teeth are more difficult to access, so make sure you spend some time brushing them. Ask your dentist to show you the best way to brush.
* Don’t rush it. Take your time brushing and spend at least 2 or 3 minutes each time. An electric toothbrush can be a good tool to use as they often include a timer, so your never underbrush.
* Make sure to change toothbrush or electric toothbrush head every 3 months. You can opt for a toothbrush that have bristles that change color, indicating when it is time to change the toothbrush.
* Ask you dentist about using an antibacterial mouth rinse. Note, it is important not too overuse mouth rinses as they can kill the “good bacteria” .
* Floss every night, or after every meal and snacks. Ask your dentist or dental hygienist how to floss properly.
* Brush your tongue. This will help keep your mouth fresh longer.
* Make sure to visit your dentist every 6 months. A regular visit a the dentist office will help reduce the chances of cavities and gum diseases.
* Don’t eat too much sweet food. Drink lots of water.

And last but not least, don’t forget to smile!

As you’ll see from browsing online, the number of choices for electric toothbrushes can simply be overwhelming. How do you know which one is best? There are so many choices, from familiar brands like Sonicare and Braun, different models, some with extra options. So what’s the best electric toothbrush for you? Like most people, deciding which is the best electric toothbrush for your needs and budget can be an intimidating task, given the myriad of models and choices available. Luckily, we’ve put together this guide to help you, step-by-step through the process.

Click on each of them and read some of the customer reviews, this will give you a good idea of what other people like yourself thought of the product. Unfortunately, an often overlooked aspect to owning an electric toothbrush is care and maintenance of said brush. It is advised that you periodically clean and disinfect your toothbrush to ensure that it is doing the best job possible. This requires more than a quick rinse under the tap after use. We’ve put together a small guide to help you keep your toothbrush clean and fresh.

1) Always rinse after using. This is the first and easiest step to keeping your electric toothbrush clean. After using it, rinse it off and rub the bristles clean with your finger. Be sure to place it back in the rack properly as well, don’t leave it sitting around on the counter where it can collect germs and bacteria.

2) Periodically take the head off, and wash the parts with a mild, soapy solution. Most electric toothbrushes will come with detailed instructions on cleansing and maintenance, so be sure to refer to those for more details.

3) Use either hydrogen peroxide, or bleach, mixed with water (about 3 parts water, 1 part bleach/hydrogen peroxide). You want to dilute it first, as a high concentration can damage the bristles on your brush and discolor the plastic. Leave your toothbrush head to soak for about 20 minutes before removing it from the solution and rinsing it thoroughly. Do this once every few weeks.

Proper care and maintenance of your electric toothbrush translates directly into healthier teeth for you. Do your dentist a favor and keep your toothbrush clean and well maintained!

Are electric toothbrushes are more effective than the manual? Let’s find out.

Increasingly sophisticated, electric toothbrushes are legion. But are they really more effective than manual brushes? Three experts, a dental hygienist and vocational teacher, a dentist specializing in periodontics, and a professor also head of the division of periodontics at the University of Geneva were unanimous: when you take the time to use a manual toothbrush, the result is almost equivalent to that of an electric model. However, when in a hurry, or not doing it right, electric brushes are more effective at cleaning teeth and to clean where it can be hard to reach. However, it is also important to take in consideration the quality of the electric toothbrush as it will also affect the quality of the brushing. Different criteria needs to be taken in account when choosing an electric toothbrush.

The type of technique
There are currently two main types of electric models: the oscillo-rotary and sonic vibration.

The first includes a rotating brush that removes plaque caused by bacteria. The oscillo-rotary electric toothbrush is easy to use: simply press and hold the brush on each tooth without making any movements – especially not horizontally. Make sure you properly learn to use that type of electric toothbrush because a bad use of such a model can cause abrasion of the enamel and a retraction of the gums.

The sonic care toothbrush works by vibration. It helps to activate the fluid, therefore removing the deposits on the teeth, and minimizing the risk of abrasion – with an adapted brushing technique. Better: it reduces tooth staining of smokers and heavy tea and coffee drinkers.

Brush
The oscillo-rotary models are usually equipped with a round brush, the sonic care toothbrush models with classic brushes. The rules are the same for both types of electric toothbrushes: you should favor the soft bristles and even extra-soft to protect your teeth and gums. Also, you should change the brush every month.

Useful accessories
Marketing requires the electric rotating or sonic care toothbhrushes come with increasingly advanced gadgets. Among them are the timer, indicating the duration of brushing, the personalized brushing system or a an indicator of pressure, which blocks the oscillations for a few seconds when the user presses too hard against the teeth or gums.

Costs
A battery or mains electricity, simple or sophisticated, electric toothbrushes are a must. Prices, too, since they vary between $60 to $200, depending on the number of movements per minute, programs and accessories.

We’ve always been recommended to brush our teeth two to three times a day in order to keep a good dental hygiene. Often, people believe that electric toothbrush are used by people who became lazy and prefer to get the job done for them. This is not quite right! As a matter of fact, many dentists request that their patients use an electric toothbrush instead of a traditional toothbrush.

Why? Well, because it is a lot easier to remove stains and plaque that are difficult to remove by simple brushing by hand. The dentist will then advise an alternative, the electric toothbrush. However, it is important to buy the right electric toothbrush. If you one that doesn’t do the job, you might as well keep brushing your teeth with a manual toothbrush!

Indeed, since people’s interest in this new approach to dental health, thousands of models of electric toothbrushes have been released on the market. What should you look for? You should first make sure to choose an electric toothbrush with a round head and not a square head. The reason? The movement of the electric toothbrush has to be circular (not from bottom to top) for better cleaning.

When you make your choice of electric toothbrush, you should also ask yourself what you are looking for: the expensive one (probably higher quality that with last longer), or the more than affordable lower quality one? The best electric toothbrushes usually cost no more than $140 but no less than $60 on average. If you choose a less expensive electric toothbrush, chances are that the electric toothbrush may not be effective or get damaged very quickly. And remember, no matter what model of electric toothbrush or what budget you will decide to spend on it, you will also need to budget for heads, which need to be changed just as a regual manual toothbrush.

Have a good teeth cleaning!

More effective than manual toothbrushes, safe for your teeth and gums, and now low price, rechargeable toothbrush are recommended by a lot of dental healthcare professionals. Try it, you will never return back to your old manual toothbrush!

Healthy teeth and gums is part of our well-being. This is why nearly half of all dentists recommend their patients to use an electric toothbrush.

Saving time
With an electric toothbrush, you win: they work for you! No need to perform movements from the bottom to the top, just passing on the teeth slowly by making small rotations to clean the entire surface. Then you do a full rotation, from one end to another on the front, then in the opposite direction inside the mouth. Brushing time: 2 minutes, watch in hand.

More comfort
The electric toothbrush leaves an incredible result after its passage, the teeth are smoother, softer … That’s why 90% of users of electric toothbrushes are satisfied with their choice against only 70% of those who use a manual brush! But do not forget to regularly change the brush head every month or so and never lend it to avoid the spreading of germs.

Better oral protection
A toothbrush is essential for your dental hygiene. Plus it is better to opt for an electric: dental professionals agree that it can reach places, even the most difficult of access, such as the teeth at the far back. With an electric toothbrush, you will remove more plaque that can lead to the development of cavities and periodontal disease. This will prevent the deposit of tartar, and the risk of gingivitis.

The four rules of oral health
To keep your teeth nice, dentists and dental professionals recommend making regular visits to the dentist, to brush teeth at least morning and evening, to use a fluoride toothpaste and to avoid food too sweet or too acidic (coffee, candy, etc.).. You now know what you have to do to keep your best smile!
